// process & sensibility

The D+Workshop is led by:
@Robin Donaldson
&
@F. Myles Sciotto, Ph.D.
The intention of the D+Workshop is to advance our methods and processes regarding representation, fabrication, and documentation.

// sensibility
_[>]

Referential
vs
Representational

We look inward to explore the depth of our interests to ensure our approach is authentic to ourselves, our clients, and our projects.

//
REPRESENTATION

[ Drawing is the Idea ]

/ WHAT
We develop novel methods of integrating drawing into the design process, blurring the boundaries between representation and embodiment.

/ WHY
As digital tools become more ubiquitous and digital platforms more accessible, it becomes increasingly important to challenge questions of authenticity and uniqueness.

/ HOW
We oscillate between physical and digital techniques of representation. If something exists in the digital realm, we bring it into the physical world to reintroduce the hand into the making process. Conversely, if it exists in the physical world, we digitize it to harness the power of computation.
//
FABRICATION

[ Embedding Methodology ]

/ WHAT
We investigate common assumptions about the workflow and systems involved in the building process.

/ WHY
By understanding the nuances of systems and components, we can work seamlessly with fabricators and builders, and better able to understand and appreciate their expertise.

/ HOW
Integrating ourselves into the project's means and methods fosters a dialogue with fabricators, allowing us to incorporate our methodology into their processes.
//
DOCUMENTATION

[Advancing Knowledge ]

/ WHAT
We distill and disseminate the techniques and sensibilities discovered throughout the design process, sharing them with a wider audience.

/ WHY
Curating our processes and findings helps us understand and reflect on our journey, iterating for future directions. It allows us to articulate our interests and discoveries to both our internal team and the broader community.

/ HOW
We utilize physical, digital publications and platforms, and self-publish process catalogs that demonstrate our journey.
